As I reached 50 I felt
myself soaring with a unfamiliar calm. What I had feared all my life,
was that on reaching the age of crows feet around my eyes, I would
plummet into a stagnate rocking chair life and all monumental life
adventures and creativity in my life would end. That was two published
books ago, a CD and new radio show. That was a time when I felt true
beauty was categorized by skin texture and perfect thighs.
With the trade off of leaving my youth behind me, I could finally
concentrate on the person screamed over by the power of my hormones. A
comfortable calm set in. I embraced the old friend I knew was always
within me. A deep and comfortable spirituality bloomed.
As if pulled together by a magnet, my intuition and spirituality
combined and flowered as one. Is this wisdom? I found myself drawn to
a circle of women long submerged in crone spirituality, and welcomed new
arrivals like Peter at the gates. We told our personal life stories,
made sense of them and why they happened. Most of all we encouraged
each others gifts ad blessings
What is a Crone?
Crones Counsel uses the term crone to reference, and to reclaim, the name of the wise
woman of ancient times. The concept of crone existed tens of thousands of years ago
when women's life patterns were conceptualized in three stages - Maiden, Mother, and
Crone. The Maiden was the youthful, independent woman. The Mother was a woman whoe
guided others - as a biological mother or as a teacher. The Crone was the post menopausal
woman who enjoyed a special, revered status. The elder woman ws viewed as a fount of
wisdom, law, healing skills, and moral leadership; her presence and leadership were
treasured at every significant tribal ceremony and each personal occasion from birth
to death. In that light, Crones Counsel consistently focuses on the empowerment and
well-being of older women and claims the honored staus of the ancient crone for
contemporary women.
